Every Halloween, like clockwork, we dress up with the kids, going from door to door in our neighborhood to collect sweets. My kids love it, and we always have such a great time together.
But it wasn’t always easy for me to let go and have fun.
For a long time, I saw myself as “the researcher,” “the entrepreneur,” or “the serious businessman,” convincing myself that I was too focused, too responsible for these simple joys. I had put up walls around myself, unable to see beyond the roles I’d built up.
When we stop over-identifying with these roles and allow ourselves to step outside of them, something wonderful happens. Life opens up. There’s more room for fun, for spontaneity, for lightness.
It’s so easy to let work and achievements define us. But we’re so much more than what we do. When we let ourselves be, rather than just do, we create space for genuine joy and fulfillment.
Remember, you deserve a life filled with joy and peace, both inside and outside of work. Don’t let your professional role be the only way you see yourself.
Embrace all that you are—let your life expand beyond the titles and milestones.
1 Question for the Weekend
When was the last time you felt true joy or lightness outside of your work accomplishments, and what allowed you to experience it?
